GATN-2017 in Review

by | Blogs

We hope that 2017 has been a momentous year for all of you and your businesses! Here at GATN, we’ve had another busy year bringing tech thought leadership and networking events to our tech execs and technologists here in the Greater Alpharetta corridor of North Fulton and South Forsyth.

A few of the year’s highlights and firsts:

Another fun and successful round of Pitch training to our startup community, thanks to our friends at Echelon Communicate. We host Echelon’s popular Pitch Present program at the Tech Alpharetta Innovation Center every year, and this program hit capacity within days of opening up 2017 registration. A big thank you to Echelon Communicate for helping our thriving startup community fine-tune their pitches! Echelon Communicate’s Pitch Present returns in March 2018…

More tech mixers. Thanks to your suggestions, we added more tech networking mixers in 2017, so that you could meet and mingle with other local tech professionals. Seventy-plus attendees attended our February mixer at Five Seasons Brewing, and our networking mixer at Tesla this fall, (along with those test rides in the Teslas), brought another packed house. More to come in 2018…

Our first VC panel. We held our first VC panel in June at the Tech Alpharetta Innovation Center, with a standing room only, highly engaged crowd, and Allyson Eman from Venture Atlanta as our moderator. Later in the year, thanks to the generosity of our sponsor Object Frontier Software and Speaker Series headliner Rich Napoli, its CEO, we were able to bring Forrester’s tech futurist, Brian Hopkins, to Alpharetta to share his insights with our tech community.

Our CEO Forum series brings well-known tech CEOs to Alpharetta to share their stories and lessons learned with our Greater Alpharetta tech CEOs. The CEO Forum events became a very hot ticket in 2017, thanks to their blockbuster speakers. Many thanks to CEO Forum Premier sponsor Wm Leonard & Co. and Distinguished Sponsor Aprio for making this series possible.

Our annual holiday tech mixer at the Village Tavern capped off the year’s events, with delicious food and drinks and a very enthusiastic tech crowd. The party was still going strong when I finally departed!

Thank you to all of you, our tech community, for your support of GATN and our events. And a big thank you to our 2017 President, Amy Hill, for running GATN, and to our Board members, all of whom have volunteer their time and talents to our mission of helping to grow our tech community. Finally, I’d like to thank GATN’s sponsors, whose support has been critical to GATN’s success. We’re grateful for all of your support.

What’s ahead? We have some very exciting news to share at the start of 2018! Until then, thank you all, and happy holidays!

Warm regards,

Karen Cashion

CEO, Tech Alpharetta, and Founder of GATN
